History MMJB mini jazz, lake placid blue, made in Japan 2002. History does does well in Japan, it's all made by the iconic Fujigen Gakki factory and sold through the Shimamura group of stores. In 2002, History released a 'kids catalog', with two bass models and three electric guitars, all in small sizes. The fun thing about this: it's not a toy, it's a really great instrument. It's got Gotoh tuners, a quality intonatable bridge, great fretwork, proper tonewoods... it really is like a scaled down version of a proper Jazz Bass. We've got it strung with 38-85 strings and tuned A to C, like the top four strings on a six string bass. The neck is a 24.75" scale with a standard 38mm nut, so it's comfy and fun and small-hand friendly without being too cramped for full sized humans. The tone is dark and warm, but there's plenty of snap and clarity on the top end to make sure your notes don't get lost. The blue looks great too, it's very summery. This piqued my curiosity, I had to give it a go, and I'm glad I did: it's good old fashioned fun.
