Cort KX-Custom Transparent Red 2006
Cort KX Custom, red over flame maple, made in Korea 2006. Cort's parent company Cor-Tek have been the biggest producer of guitars in the world at times in the last couple of decades... they've made guitars for everyone from Fender to Gibson to Ibanez out of their factories spread across Asia. Their own brand, Cort, doesn't necessarily enjoy the enormous following of a brand like Fender, so they compete in another way: being really good. This was right up there with Cort's highest end offerings in 2006, so you get some flash specs: Duncan pickups, nice hardware, and a solid carved flame maple cap that's around 20mm thick in the middle of the body. The body shape looks a little like a PRS Custom 24 mixed with an Ibanez SA series, and it works very well: lightweight, nicely balanced, easy access all the way to the 24th fret... slick stuff. The pickups are great: this has a smooth, clear tone with plenty of midrange growl and a chiming top end. For around half what you'd pay for a new PRS SE, this is pretty outstanding in terms of build quality, feel and sound. Don't get Cort with your trousers down!

Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. The headstock has dimples on the end and on the back near the neck join, as well as some scuffs on both edges and the back near the top. The neck is clean and smooth in the hands, minor rub wear and scuffs on the back only. The back has scuffs on both horns, back edge and the bottom corner near the jack, rub wear along the belly carve and elbow area as well as some surface scratches around the ferrules. The sides have scuffs on the top horn, scuffs and dimples in the elbow area, scuffs near the jack and some rub wear and dimples on the bottom horn. The front has scuffs in the elbow area and near the knobs and some play wear on both horns and around the strings.
Overall: very good condition (8/10)
Playing Condition Notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electronics tested and working properly. Wearing fresh 10/46 strings.
Fret Life: 8/10, minor wear only
